This 2018-2019 men’s soccer season is led by coach Elliot Savitz, and they currently hold an undefeated record of 3-0-2.
On December 11th, Pointers took another win against Crawford High School. It was a tight game against the Colts who hold a record of 7-2. Throughout the game, both teams held an even split of ball possession and the strong competitiveness led to a physical game. Several fouls, freekicks, and injuries were witnessed. Senior Mason Berengue who wears jersey number 4, received a yellow card in the first time causing him to miss the rest of the half, but returning back to action after the 45 minute mark
The first half ended with the scoreboard displaying a 1 vs 0 score, and a goal celebration at the 40 yard line by Seniors Julian Barossi and Will Barba. On the 67th minute of the game, a foul by a Pointer was committed in the goal box causing the referee to call out a penalty kick. Despite the tension, Sophomore Zane Sieger made a great save and was able to stop the penalty kick. It was not until minute 74 when another penalty kick was called, but this time in favor of the Pointers. Chris Bourdon set the ball 12 yards away from the goal line and kicked a powerful shot, yet it was deflected by the Crawford’s goal keeper’s leg. Even though, this goal opportunity was missed, in overtime a second goal was scored by the Pointers, ending the game with a great score of 2 vs 0.
Overall it was a thrilling game that was cheered on by the Men’s JV soccer players, Women’s Soccer team players, and of course the great families’ of the Men’s Varsity players. Their next game will be a home game against San Diego. Go Pointers!
